Reality - every taste, everywhere

Every taste bud, spread across the whole tongue, soft palate, and epiglottis, can detect all five tastes. There are minor regional sensitivity differences - nowhere close to the strict zones most people still picture.

Also not a taste: ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ spiciness, ๐Ÿท astringency, and ๐ŸงŠ cooling. Those come from pain and temperature receptors (capsaicin, menthol) - chemesthesis, not taste buds at all.
